A nurse has been named one of the best in the country for her work at a north-east care home.

Jenny Coutts, a unit manager at Tor-Na-Dee in Milltimber, was recognised at the Scottish Care Awards this week.

The facility received “good” ratings from the Care Inspectorate when the watchdog last visited in December 2018, and has recently held open days and a falconry workshop for its residents.

Ms Coutts was presented her trophy by singer and television presenter Michelle McManus at a glittering ceremony in Glasgow.

She said: “I love my work, there is nowhere else that I could experience the high levels of diversity and autonomy that my role brings.

“I have the opportunity of working with fellow senior clinicians from inside and out of the home, I am able to mentor the next generation of carers and, above all, I can help our residents lead happy and fulfilling lives.”

Jennifer Pilkington, from Tor-Na-Dee operator Care UK, said: “Jenny provides invaluable support to colleagues in delivering best practice in dementia care.

“Her team are more confident in caring for residents with dementia and explore a variety of approaches to find the right one for the individual.

“They openly share knowledge and advice, meaning relatives feel more included, empowered and reassured with the extra knowledge and insight that Jenny has given them.”
