A new book celebrating the heritage of one of the north-east’s most famous natural beauty spots has been published through a joint project between Aberdeen University and a conservation group.
Bennachie and the Garioch: Society and Ecology in the North East of Scotland is the fourth published volume from the Bennachie Landscapes group, a collaborative project by the Bailies of Bennachie and Aberdeen University.
The new book tells the history of the famous hill and its surroundings, from the discovery and excavation of a 17th century hospital on the slopes of the hill, to historic graffiti carved into the top of the Mither Tap summit.
It was launched at the Garioch Heritage Centre last week, at an event featuring contributors such as the book’s editor Colin Shepherd.
Fiona Cormack, from the Bailies group, said: “The Bailies were delighted at the positive response to the launch of this volume.
“It is a high-quality book, complete with illustrations and drawings which would be a great Christmas present for anyone interested in the landscape and history of the Bennachie area.”
