A grieving north-east family has raised thousands for a bereavement charity in honour of a “devoted father” killed in an industrial accident.
Mark Mather, from Inverurie, died last September in an incident involving a roller door at a car dealership in Aberdeen.
The 33-year-old’s loved ones have now amassed £10,000 for the charity which provided support to his young children following the tragedy.
Family and friends raised £16,379 at a ball held in his memory at the Buchan Braes hotel, Boddam, in October and decided to donate £10,000 to the Grampian Child Bereavement Network (GCBN).
Mr Mather’s sons Connor and Blair, recently presented a cheque to Jan Sanders from the GCBN committee as a mark of gratitude.
His widow, Deborah, said: “GCBN has offered so much support to our family since we lost Mark.
“They have also given advice and support to the school and nursery staff where the boys attend by way of training, ideas, tips and suggested activities.
“To us, GCBN is a charity that needs to be known about so that all families are aware of them.”
After he died, Mr Mathers was remembered as an “incredibly fun guy to be around, and an utterly devoted father”.
The family also made generous donations to ward 201 at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as well as the local primary school.
