Schoolchildren across Aberdeenshire are rallying to raise money for after a popular competition was cancelled due to funding issues.
The annual music, dance and song extravaganza Rock Challenge UK collapsed earlier this year.
In the north-east schools locals have since taken on the “monumental task” of arranging an alternative event for pupils.
Mackie Academy in Stonehaven has now joined forces with other schools in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to produce an event, Make It Happen in June 2020.
Funding is required to pay for travel, purchase of materials and removals of stage set, costumes for dancers as well as payment towards cost of hiring a venue.
Pupils will be participating in many fundraising events, and looking for any willing sponsors to help make this event happen.
Make It Happen Mackie has organised a variety of events, such as litter picking and bag packing, to raise money, with other schools also getting behind the effort.
Parent Allison McIntyre said: “The children were devastated and now schools are working really hard to come together to replace it.
“There’s a committee of pupils who are completely organising this – everything comes from the kids – and as parents we are doing whatever we can to support them.”
Pupils from across the north-east have traditionally spent months each year perfecting dazzling routines for the Rock Challenge event and were “absolutely gutted” at news it had had been cancelled.
