A new calendar is now on sale in the Mearns, featuring snapshots of local history which have never been seen before.
To mark 2020, a “very special” calendar has been created, depicting scenes of life in Auchenblae. All proceeds from sales will go to charity.
Each of the 12 images comes from a private collection that includes previously unseen material, and explores 100 years of history.
Horses and carts are featured, some bringing goods from nearby Fordoun Station to the many shops that traded at the turn of the 19th century.
The weekly supplies enabled Auchenblae to remain self-sufficient, and to cater for the many visitors who arrived each summer to enjoy the country retreat.
Local resident Jenny Thomson said: “This year’s edition is by far the best to date, and we are happy to share the historic images with those who are interested in days gone by.”
The Auchenblae calendars have been published for several years and find their way to all corners of the world.
The Souvenir Calendar costs £6.50 and is available from Premier Stores in Auchenblae, Charles Michie Chemist, and the Post Office, both in Laurencekirk, or from Mrs Thomson on 01561 320245.
All proceeds go towards worthwhile fabric projects within Auchenblae Church and Church Hall.
