A north-east amateur football team has donated more than half a tonne of food to help struggling families.
Buchanhaven FC wanted to give back to the community who helped to support them financially this year, so the club teamed up with Peterhead Food Bank to tackle hunger and poverty in the area.
Manager Aaron Ritchie said: “We’ve had so much support from the community of Peterhead ourselves in terms of sponsorships and support, and we felt it was our turn to give back.”
The club used its Facebook page to encourage others to support the good cause.
For two weeks, players and coaches helped to collect and deliver the essential goods to those in need and any food donated was matched by the club.
Mr Ritchie added: “We were unsure of how it would go but it exceeded any expectations we could have had. The kind people of Peterhead never cease to amaze.
“It’s definitely something we plan to do again because of the sheer success of it.
“Thank you all very much, you’ve no idea how much this will help.
“We’d also like to say a thank you to the volunteers of the food bank who give up so much time and effort for no financial gain. They don’t get appreciated as the true heroes.”
