Alfie, a German Shepherd, was chasing a cat in Newtonhill when he fell from a cliff edge onto a ledge about 40ft below. He had no serious injuries but appeared to be shaken when he was found. Coastguard teams from Stonehaven, Montrose, Aberdeen and Cruden Bay all attended the incident after being called out at 5.45pm. A lifeboat from Stonehaven was also in attendance. A spokeswoman for the Aberdeen coastguard said: “The dog has now been recovered and was safely returned home.”
