A man was cut free from a car and taken to hospital following a ‘serious’ crash outside Glen Tanar Estate near Aboyne in the early hours of this morning.
The incident happened at around 12.17am on the B976 between the Aboyne turn-off and Dinnet Bridge.
Fire crews used cutting equipment to free the 23-year-old driver after his white BMW 120 left the road.
The man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with critical injuries.
A fire spokeswoman said: “Firefighters were called to the incident around 12.20am.
“Cutting equipment and small tools were used to remove the driver from the vehicle.
“Fire crews left the scene at 2.15am.”
Police have closed the road and a diversion route is in place via the the A93 until further notice.

Sergeant Peter Henderson, from the North East Road Policing department, said: “Our thoughts are with the injured party and his family at this time.
“While inquiries into this incident are ongoing, I am keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision itself, or may have seen the vehicle before it happened.”
