Extra time to nominate someone for Inspiring Aberdeenshire award

Members of the public have been given more time to nominate unsung heroes from Aberdeenshire.

The deadline for putting forward a person’s name for the various Inspiring Aberdeenshire Awards was originally the end of 2019, but that has now been extended.

Aberdeenshire Council has not announced when the new cut-off point will be, but the authority has encouraged members of the public to get involved, so that volunteers, carers and other “champions” can gain recognition.

The initiative is one of the highlights of the local authority’s calendar and seeks to acknowledge those who have gone above and beyond.

There are eight awards for which people can be nominated.

These include the ‘Heart of Aberdeenshire’ caring accolade for a person who has had a significant impact on the life of a vulnerable person, the Inspirational Volunteer award for someone who has “gone the extra mile” and the Local Hero courage award for someone who has overcome a difficult situation using bravery.

In a statement released on Facebook, a spokesman for Aberdeenshire Council said: “You now have a little bit of extra time to nominate someone for an Inspiring Aberdeenshire award.

“These awards are our way of thanking the people of Aberdeenshire for what they do, whether they are volunteers, cultural champions, green ambassadors, those with a caring role, or our own local heroes.

“If you know someone who does loads and gets little recognition, nominate them now.”

The other categories include the ‘Beautiful Aberdeenshire’ environmental award, the community spirit prize, the cultural award for promotion of local culture, Aberdeenshire’s future award for someone under 25 who has shown good leadership and the Inspiring Aberdeenshire lifetime achievement award.
