An Aberdeen councillor has called for new warning signs for drivers after the death of a deer in a city community.
Residents of Craigieburn Park asked for the sign at the entrance from Springfield Road after the creature was killed nearby.
Hazlehead, Queens Cross and Countesswells member Martin Greig said a previous sign which warned about deer crossing had been vandalised and has now called for a replacement to be installed.
He said: “It is deeply distressing that this vulnerable animal was fatally injured by a vehicle.
“The area is often visited by deer, foxes and other wild animals and residents value the presence of wild animals passing through.
“This should be a safe environment for all who visit. Springfield Road has a history of road safety concerns. I have asked for action to address worries about local traffic.
“I have the broken pieces that were lying on the pavement so have suggested the sign be repaired with them.
“It is an old ceramic sign and is worth restoring. The alternative is a new metal or plastic option.
“This pointless act of deliberate destruction is therefore all the more sad.
“The damage is such a shame. Since some of the fragments have been collected in time, it would be good to repair this older example of street sign instead of removing it entirely and replacing with a new metal or plastic sign.”
