The first ever festive fun run in a north-east village has been hailed a success.
About 70 people of all ages and abilities walked, jogged and ran 5km along the shore at Cruden Bay for a “Christmas Eve caper” to help raise £295 for the charity Christian Aid.
Event organiser, Sean Swindells, put together the event as part of his fundraising efforts ahead of running the London Marathon next year.
This was the first event of its kind in Cruden Bay and Mr Swindells didn’t know what to expect.
But last night he revealed that its success far exceeded his expectations.
He said: “I really wasn’t sure what to expect with the turnout, I was only expecting about 30 people so I’m really pleased with the response from the community.
“All sorts of people, from children to grandparents, took part.
“Everyone seemed to have a really good time. Those who took part expressed an interest for the event to take place again next year but we’ll just have to wait and see if the weather permits it again.”
Trophies were up for grabs for the first male, first female and first under-16 to complete the route.
At the finish line, participants enjoyed mince pies and bottled water.
Mr Swindells said: “It was a really lovely atmosphere.”
Mr Swindells is planning more fundraising events for next year prior to the London Marathon.
