2019 in review: What happened in October, November and December?

Crowds flocked to Aberdeen Art Gallery in early November after the A-listed venue was given a £35m refurbishment.

There was a reshuffle at Aberdeen FC after long-standing chairman Stewart Milne announced he was stepping down from the role to make way for his second-in-command Dave Cormack.

Even the law was not immune to change, with Scotland becoming the first country in the UK to ban smacking children when Inverness MSP John Finnie’s bill received Royal Assent.

OCTOBER

October 2: Dozens of dogs are seized from a suspected puppy farm in Moray as part of a joint investigation between the Scottish SPCA and police.

October 23: Man dies and eight people are injured and taken to hospital following a two-vehicle crash at Bridge of Orchy in Argyll and Bute.

October 25: A heroic 10-year-old boy is praised for helping rescue his mother who plunged down a steep 330ft ravine as their family climbed Ben Cruachan.

October 31: Muller serves termination notices to 14 of its 26 Aberdeenshire dairy farmer suppliers, in part because of “heightened or complex logistical challenges”.

October 31: return: Legendary ex-Dons manager Sir Alex Ferguson arrives in the north-east to officially open Aberdeen FC’s £12m Cormack Park training ground at Kingsford.

NOVEMBER

November 2: Aberdeen Art Gallery officially re-opens to the public after a four-year closure and £35m facelift.

November 3: Scottish Conservative MP Ross Thomson pulls out of the running to retain his Aberdeen South seat following allegations he groped another parliamentarian.

November 5: Childrenswear chain Mothercare falls into administration, with all 79 UK branches to close as the business winds up.

November 21: Former first minister Alex Salmond appears at the High Court accused of 14 charges including attempted rape and indecent assault.

November 25: Aberdeen FC chairman Dave Cormack unveils a link-up with Major League Soccer side Atlanta United.

DECEMBER

December 14: The former depute lord provost of Aberdeen, Alan Donnelly, is found guilty of sexually assaulting a man at trial but refuses to resign despite pleas from colleagues.

December 15: Sporting stars from across the world arrive at P&j Live for the glamorous BBC Sports Personality of the year awards, with the top prize given to cricketer Ben Stokes.

December 24: Community members rally together in aid of Highland League side Clachnacuddin, after a tumble dryer fire causes “catastrophic” damage at its Inverness stadium.
