A pensioner has died in hospital almost a week after suffering serious injuries when she was struck by a car on a busy Aberdeen road.

Joan Kane was knocked down on Lang Stracht on the afternoon of Monday, December 23, and was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she was described as being in a “critical but stable” condition.

Police have now confirmed that she died on Sunday, six days later the incident.

Last night friends remembered the  69-year-old as a “lovely” woman and a “good neighbour”.

Yvonne Frail lived next door to Mrs Kane on Birkhall Parade before she moved out of the street a few years ago.

The Northfield resident said: “She was lovely, she was a good neighbour and she was funny.”

Many others took to social media to post tributes and express their condolences.

Paula Hegarty wrote: “Poor woman, may she rest in peace, thoughts with her heartbroken family.”

Andy Finlayson added: “Thoughts and prayers to Joan’s family and friends, all the more harder to take at this time of year.”

Another tribute, from Sharon Grady Turnbull, read: “Such sad news. Thoughts with all Joan’s family and friends.”

Inquires into the circumstances of the crash, which involved a red Hyundai car, are ongoing and police are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the incident.

Mrs Kane was struck by a car at around 4.10pm near the Lidl supermarket on Lang Stracht, near the junction with Stronsay Drive.

Sergeant Craig McNeill, of the area’s road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of Mrs Kane.

“I would urge anyone who may have information about the collision and has not already spoken to officers, to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 2391 of Monday, 23 December.”

A stretch of the road was sealed off for hours following the accident as an investigation was launched, and drivers were advised to take alternative routes to avoid the area.
