The demolition of a once-popular social club to make way for a new car park got under way yesterday.
Fences were erected around the former Aberdeen Transport Club weeks ago as workers began clearing out the premises, which served the Granite City for decades as a venue for parties and functions.
Once the building has been flattened, work will begin on creating a 90-space car park for the adjacent Arnold Clark vehicle hire firm on Canal Road.
Diggers began tearing down the section of the building nearest to Arnold Clark yesterday, with a pile of debris mounting up outside the venue.
Along with the new car park, the motor group will also have a wash bay and fuelling station on the site, all of which is next door to its car and rental business.
In a document submitted to Aberdeen City Council, the firm described the former social club and bowling green as being in “disrepair”.
