Police are investigating an attempted break-in at a north-east football club.
The culprits targeted Fraserburgh Football Club’s hospitality lounge on Sunday at about 5.15pm.
The youths were caught on CCTV, and the footage has now been handed over to the police.
A police spokeswoman said: “We received a report of an attempted break-in at Fraserburgh Football Club that happened around 5.15pm on Sunday, January 12.
“Officers are following a positive line of inquiry.”
Last night Brian Topping, the joint chairman of Fraserburgh FC’s Supporters Club, said it was “hugely disappointing” that the venue had been targeted and that he hoped the culprits would be caught.
“I hope they do get caught and identified and if they are old enough, I hope they get their just deserts,” he said. “Any attempt at vandalism is very concerning but hospitality lounges at football clubs are important to a lot of people as not only do they help generate income for the club but they are also an important part of the experience for fans.”
Councillor Doreen Mair added: “This is the first time I’ve heard of something like this happening at the football club and I hope it will be the last.
“I’m glad the CCTV seems to have caught the perpetrators but it’s just really disappointing that a few people in Fraserburgh think it’s acceptable to target an excellent community facility like the football club.
“It’s the community that benefit from these facilities and people really put a lot of effort into them. It’s such a disappointment to see it being abused this way.”
Club chairman Finlay Noble declined to comment due to the ongoing police inquiry.
