A dolphin festival will return in April following a successful launch event last year.

DolphinFest 2020 will celebrate the national Year of Coasts and Waters initiative by giving people in the Granite City more opportunities to spot and learn about local marine wildlife.

Running from April 15-19, there will be a range of events aimed at showcasing and celebrating the popular species.

And the festival is also aiming to inspire people to take action to protect the local wildlife.

Dolphinwatch community events officer, Sadie Gorvett, is organising the festival.

She said: “I cannot believe we get to run DolphinFest for a second year.

“Last year was amazing, seeing so many different organisations and individuals come together to celebrate the dolphins and marine environment.

“I truly believe we are so lucky to have such a beautiful marine environment around us and it is so important we all get involved to protect it.”

Paul Bush, director of events at Visit Scotland, added: “We are delighted to support DolphinFest as part of Year of Coasts and Waters 2020.

“Scotland offers the perfect stage to explore our natural environment and this year’s festival will bring people together in Aberdeen to celebrate and learn more about our marine wildlife.”

The full programme for the festival will be announced at the beginning of March and a special launch event will be held on April 15 in the city centre.
