An Aberdeen charity has received almost £90,000 in funding from the National Lottery to help hundreds of women who have been subjected to domestic abuse.
Pathway Services will use its grant of £86,415 to continue running a much-needed counselling service for women who have experienced domestic abuse across the city and Aberdeenshire.
The funding will allow them to continue the service for another three years, and the charity is expecting to support around 275 women in that time.
The charity will now focus on making its help more accessible to everyone, as previously only women who had been referred through Grampain Women’s Aid could use the counselling service.
Manager, Malcolm Pritchard, said there had been “constant demand” for its support.
He said: “This money will make a huge difference to women who have experienced abuse, and will provide a flexible approach including either telephone or face-to-face counselling, which means that our service is accessible to women no matter how remote their location.
“The service makes an absolutely massive difference to women’s lives.
“The abuse can be in many different ways, it can be financial, physical, emotional and it can go on after a relationship.”
Patway Services is based on Powis Place and was formed in 1998.
