Walkers donned tiaras, tutus and pink t-shirts for an annual walk yesterday styled as a “celebration of life and friendship.”
More than 300 people braved the miserable north-east weather yesterday for the sixth annual Bling Fling, which raises money for local causes.
The hardy participants helped raise thousands for breast cancer services at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Archway, which supports adults and children with learning disabilities.
Janine Davies, a co-founder of the popular fundraiser, said: “There were more than 300 people walking and all the people here, all the volunteers, are all different groups.
“We’ve got Phoenix theatre, we’ve got a load of therapists who come and give up their time, we’ve got other entertainers, singer, dancers.
“Everyone gives up their time to help and that’s what makes the event special, because as well as raising money it’s really about celebrating life and friendship.
“Nobody can change things that happen, but we can change how we deal with it and how it feels to go through something, and that’s really what Bling Fling is all about.”
Yesterday’s walk encompassed a portion of the Deeside Way between Aberdeen and Cults, with participants leaving from Duthie Park to complete either a 5K or 10K route. They then returned to the park’s winter gardens for a celebratory pamper party.
