An art project designed to “strengthen links” between Aberdeen and a Japanese city has been hailed a success.
A printmaking project between people in Torry and residents of Yubari, a city in the north of the Asian nation, was organised to mark the bonds between the two energy-focused communities.
Participants were asked to take three photographs on the theme of their cities’ landscapes.
Trustee for the Torry Development Trust, David Fryer, was invited to take part on behalf of Aberdeen and photographed the Torry Battery, the Victoria Bridge and the Wellington Suspension Bridge.
Three Yubari primary school children were selected as finalists, with Wakana Tsuji’s images of Shuparo Lake and the old and new Shirogane Bridges being printed in a pastel pink.
Mr Fryer said: “I’m delighted to be involved with the project and help Torry link with a community in Japan.”
Project organiser, Naoko Mabon, added: “We’ll be gifting a framed print out to Aberdeen as a symbol of our gratitude.”
The gifting event will be held on Sunday, February 9, in the Old Torry Community Centre.
Manami Sato from the Shimizusawa Project will join from Yubari via Skype.
