Plans are being brought forward to transform an 18th century building.
Kintore residents are “making progress” with work to bring back the town’s iconic 18th century Town House for the benefit of the community.
The work is being carried out by Action Kintore, a community charity that runs the Bothie youth facility in the town.
The charity’s aim is to make the town house into a space for local community groups, functions and to celebrate the history and heritage of the town.
Chairman Billy Johnstone said: “The town house was built in 1747 and really is a beautiful building.
“We really want to bring it back into use to celebrate local events, weddings, Doric, music and the history Kintore holds.
“It will be a costly process but we are looking at a lot of trusts and grants to hopefully make the planning process easier.
“The town house is currently in good nick – but access is currently the biggest issue.”
To provide disabled access, a glazed extensions is envisaged at the back of the town house, with a lift and stairs to the upper floors.
A new connection is also planned, under the clock tower, so that the former Kintore Town Council chamber would be used as an ante room, reception area, or bar.
Trustees recently had a timber survey completed on the building and meetings have been held with building owners Aberdeenshire Council.
Action Kintore is currently looking at raising money to cover the cost of the detailed plans required for a planning application.
And, as the project progresses, Action Kintore will be looking for widespread support from the community and have a crowdfunder planned.
The Square in Kintore is no stranger to refurbishment.
Last year the fountain in the town square, which had been repeatedly vandalised and bumped by vehicles, was repaired and brought back to its former glory.
