New information boards could be installed at a north-east beauty spot to highlight local nature.
Last year, plans were approved for a new development at the Lochside of Leys in Banchory.
Some 390 properties will be built on three sites at either side of the Loch of Leys nature site and in the Upper Lochton area, off Raemoir Road.
Now property firm Bancon Homes has applied for planning permission to create two timber shelters to teach people all about “Banchory’s Butterflies” and “Lochside’s Dragons” near the spot.
The new signs would detail different types of local insects such as damselflies and dragonflies, and contain information on 17 different types of butterflies.
Ben Freeman, planning manager at Bancon Homes, wrote to the council explaining that enjoying the nature of the area was a personal passion.
He said: “As studying and photographing Lepidoptera and Odenatia is a hobby of mine, I took the opportunity to make up some boards to provide information on the abundance of both in the area.
“I have also spoken with other interested parties, and there is scope to expand the education in the future by adding additional boards on flora and fauna.”
The boards would be located at the intersection of the soon-to-be upgraded core path network, and the existing path network within Hill of Banchory.
