The owner of a family-run paint and wallpaper shop has said its closure after 40 years will mark the “end of an era”.
The director of Lawrence Milne Decorators, Kevin Milne, has announced the store at the Berryden Retail Park in Aberdeen will be closing down later this month.
He said the outlet, which has operated in a variety of locations, will shut due to “rising costs and tough trading conditions in the retail market”.
Mr Milne added: “Over the last four of five years, it’s just became harder and harder, especially with there being more competition now and more competition online as well.”
But Mr Milne has stressed that, despite the imminent closure of the Aberdeen store, the shop in Ellon and the painting and decorating side of the business will not be affected.
He said: “The painting and decorating side is the main part of the business, and hasn’t been affected by this.
“Customers with vouchers will still be able to use them at the Ellon store.
“It’s an end of an era, but we would like to thank all our customers and staff who have supported us over the 40 plus years that we have had a shop in Aberdeen at Union Grove, Rosemount Viaduct and Berryden.”
Starting today, the shop is offering a closing down sale with 50% off wallpaper and paint. It is expected to close on Monday, February 24.
The racking from the shop will be donated for the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital toy store.
