Plans are in place for a pair of new green spaces in the heart of the Granite City.
Applications have been submitted for mini-parks, known as ‘parklets’, near St James’s Episcopal Church on Holburn Junction and on Huntly Street.
They are being funded through a £1.3 million windfall from the Scottish Government town centre fund.
Other projects the cash is being spent on include suspended city centre signage, a replacement boiler for St Nicholas Church, lighting on Union Bridge, a ‘living wall’ on Flourmill Lane and ‘smart’ energy efficient street lighting.
Angela Joss of city centre business body Aberdeen Inspired, who are the applicants, said: “For us, it’s about creating a suitable place where people can be encouraged to linger and adding some green space to the city centre, making it a place people can stop and have a coffee, or their lunch on a nice day.”
Council co-leader Douglas Lumsden said he hoped more funding would be given to town centres in the upcoming Scottish Government budget.
He said: “We are working with our partners Aberdeen Inspired on this one and it is clear that we are both trying to do everything we can to improve the city centre as much as possible.
“There could be more funding for projects like this and I hope more money is allocated for town centres in the budget.”
