A replacement for a badly missed Aberdeenshire bridge could be built under proposals which will go before transport chiefs next week.
The 170-year-old Abbeyton Bridge, to the north of Fourdon, was demolished in 2018 after council engineers found it was on the brink of collapse due to repeated use by heavy goods vehicles.
If the crossing fell apart, it would have crumbled onto a railway line below.
Now, a possible replacement has been mooted as part of discussions between members of Nestrans on how to spend its budget.
It is believed that large chunks of cash will go towards creating a new railway station at Kintore, and improving the park and ride facility at Ellon.
But people living around Fordoun have most welcomed the news that £343,000 could go towards creating a replacement for Abbeyton Bridge.
The new structure would connect from the B966 Castleton to Fettercairn road over the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road.
Residents had previously raised concerns about the loss of Abbeyton Bridge, with people in Fordoun and Auchenblae raising concerns about being “cut off”.
Meanwhile, £50,000 has been earmarked for CCTV equipment to be added at traffic signals along the A944 Queen’s Road corridor between Groats Road and Springfield Road.
The report going before Nestrans states: “A team of Nestrans officers and council colleagues have put forward a series of projects.
“Consideration was also given to the likelihood of projects being undertaken within identified timescales.”
