A man has been put back behind bars for eight months after he threw a bin at his mother and slapped her on Christmas Day, just shortly after leaving prison.
Ross Tappenden was released from HMP Grampian on December 24, and went to spend Christmas with his family at an address in Aboyne the following day.
Yesterday, he appeared in Aberdeen Sheriff Court to admit throwing a bin at his mother, repeatedly slapping her on the face, punching his step-father in the face and hurling homophobic abuse at police officers at Kittybrewster police station on December 25.
His defence solicitor, Ian Woodward-Nutt, told the court his client had been on medication for mental health issues, but in the days prior to the incident he had not been on said medication.
He was also drunk during the incident.
Sheriff Kenneth Stewart said: “I take the view that these assaults are extremely serious.
“These are very unpleasant offences against your family on Christmas day.”
