A Torry man has been placed on the sex offenders register for three years after being caught with hundreds of indecent images of children.
Mark Byth was also sentenced to three years’ supervision and ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Police raided the 31-year-old’s flat in Walker Road last March, finding 278 images and six videos of children.
At a hearing in December, the court was told four of the videos and 102 images were classed as category A – the most serious.
Fiscal depute Lucy Simpson had told the sheriff most of the children “were on the younger end of the scale”.
Passing sentencing yesterday, Sheriff Graeme Napier said it was “concerning” that background reports made Byth seem “fairly self-centred”.
Byth, who admitted the offence, has also been ordered to complete a programme for sex offenders.
