A Macduff drug dealer was caught after a bag of cannabis he supplied was found in a dead man’s bedroom, a court has heard.
Simon Green yesterday admitted supplying the Class B drug on October 13, 2018.
He was traced by police after Alexander Scott was found dead in his home a few days later, although the court heard he had not died from taking the cannabis.
Fiscal depute Brian Young said Mr Scott had told his brother he had arranged to buy cannabis from Green.
He added: “On October 16, a witness discovered Mr Scott had died within his bedroom where there was various signs of drugs use.
“Police were called and a sealed plastic package of a green substance was discovered on the bed.”
Officers found messages from Mr Scott asking to buy a “a quarter for £90”, which matched a transfer to Green’s bank.
And they searched the 27-year-old’s home, they found records of his sales.
Defence agent Leonard Burkinshaw told the court that Green, of Market Street, Macduff, had since lost his partner to drugs and was trying to turn his life around.
He said: “There’s absolutely no connection between what he sold and the death – I think the person who died had been addicted to stronger drugs than what Green supplied.
“He has an understanding of the impact that drugs can have on people after his partner recently died having also been involved in the drug scene.
“Their daughter is now being cared for by his mum.
“Hopefully this experience and his personal experience with the drug situation can make him improve and become the good father figure he could be.”
Sheriff Robert McDonald put Green on a year-long supervision order and told him to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work.
