Gusts of up to 70mph could hit the north and north-east today as Storm Dennis arrives.
The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for Scotland warning some “very strong winds” could cause travel disruption on Sunday and into Monday morning.
The warning reads: “Some very strong winds are likely in association with Storm Dennis. Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely quite widely within the warning area for much of the period. Gusts of 70 mph are likely at times, more especially across western Scotland on Sunday afternoon and evening, as well as in association with heavy showers elsewhere.
“A separate swathe of 70-75 mph gusts probably crossing the far north of Scotland and Orkney for a time early on Monday.”
The alert is in force until 11am on Monday.
Meanwhile motorists are being advised the snow gates are closed on the A939 between Cock Bridge and Blairnamarrow due to drifting snow.
The public are asked to avoid the area if possible and thanked for their patience.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has issued a number of flood alerts and warnings for the north of Scotland.
The warning states: “On Saturday afternoon and continuing into Sunday, prolonged rain, compounded by snowmelt, is expected to cause river levels to rise and surface water to accumulate. This may cause localised flooding throughout the region, primarily of land and roads, with local disruption to travel and difficult driving conditions possible.”
