A north-east man will cycle around 350 miles in 48 hours in memory of his mother who died of ovarian cancer.
Chris Wishart-Turner from Portsoy will climb on the saddle from John O’ Groats to Edinburgh to raise “as much as possible” for Marie Curie.
The 48-year-old who is a keen cyclist wanted to do something for the charity “that’s close to his heart.” He said: “When I was looking for routes that I could do I found that not many people have cycled from John O’Groats to Edinburgh.
He is doing the cycle in memory of my mum, Winnyfred Turner who died of ovarian cancer, aged 65, and said: “The help and support she received all those years ago from Marie Curie was just amazing.
“My mum was a brilliant lady who was so easy going and bubbly. She was always willing to help, no matter what.”
Mr Wishart-Turner’s wife is a nurse for Marie Curie and he is aware of the lengths the nurses go to help those in need.
He said: “My wife can travel as much as 500 miles per night just to be able to support people in their homes.
“The nurses cover such a large area and my hope would be to raise enough to pay for a nurse to help cover all those miles.”
Mr Wishart-Turner will start the sponsored cycle on June 26.
