A bunch of burly Inverurie men will swap weightlifting for pole dancing next week as part of a charity challenge.

The fundraising evening will take place on Saturday at 1 Life Gym in Inverurie, in honour of  Prostate Cancer UK.

Male members of the gym will try their hand at pole dancing under the guidance of owner Shama Rafiq.

There will also be a raffle, with various prizes from local businesses up for grabs.

Ms Rafiq said: “The younger men were a bit harder to convince, but the older ones wanted to do it straight away when they heard it was for a good cause.

“We’re really excited, and hopefully will be getting them to wear a bit of make-up as well.

“We’re raising money for Prostrate Cancer UK which is such an important cause.”

The session will include an hour-long routine, followed by games and other activities.

Ms Rafiq said her members had been “great” and really got into the spirit of the event.

She also thanked all those who have donated prizes, adding: “From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the local businesses, the members and of course, the guys. Without them, this wouldn’t be possible.”

Entry is £5. To find out more, search for Men on Poles on Facebook, or pop into reception. Doors open at 5pm.

The gym, at 8 High Street, Inverurie, plans to hold another fundraiser in the coming months, possibly in the form of an endurance challenge.

Businesses who can donate a raffle prize should call 01467 269144.
