North-east parents are raising money to pay for a rugby coach to provide lessons for their children, as more and more become fans of the sport.
Fraserburgh Rugby Club has launched a community crowd-funding page to gather the cash needed for a coach who will provide sessions to primary school pupils in and around the town.
The club don’t receive any funding from the Scottish Rugby Union or grant money from any sports bodies to cover the costs.
Members say there is a “growing interest in rugby” locally and want to provide all youngsters with the chance to play.
President of Fraserburgh Rugby Club, Dean Underwood, said: “There’s more benefits to rugby than becoming fitter, it also teaches discipline and teamwork.
“I’ve had parents say they’re amazed at the difference in their child after a year of playing rugby. It really helps improve their confidence and to make new friends.”
Since the club was launched six years ago, it has grown each year.
The funds raised will go towards paying for the travelling expenses of the coach as well as purchasing any equipment needed.
Mr Underwood said: “We hope to keep this going for a long time, it just depends on what financial assistance we can get.”
The club hope the new community coach can start when pupils return to school after the Easter holidays.
