Community leaders have reacted angrily to the dumping of building waste in a north-east beauty spot.
A pile of old windows and pieces of timber were found by mountain bikers dumped “slap bang” in the middle of Countesswells Woods yesterday morning.
The area is often used by cyclists and walkers, with its various paths and routes offering views of the city and Aberdeenshire.
William Sell, chairman of the nearby Craigiebuckler and Seafield Community Council, said the culprit had shown a “shocking disregard” for others with their actions.
He added: “This is quite common in various parts of Aberdeen, with whole kitchens and appliances being dumped.
“It’s sometimes a commercial decision by whoever is installing such things where they will have rubbish to take away.
“Instead of going to a recycling centre, and possibly being charged, they will just take it to a nearby remote place and tip it out.
“Other times, it can be householders who can’t be bothered putting the bins out or disposing of things properly.”
The pile of rubbish included old windows and broken glass, leaving those using the area concerned for their safety.
An investigation to find who was responsible is underway, it is understood.
Mr Sell added: “Whoever does this sort of thing must have an unempathetic mentality.
“It displays a shocking disregard for their fellow beings, who like to enjoy suburban areas and the countryside.”
The maximum penalty for fly-tipping includes a fine of up to £40,000 and a jail sentence.
