An Aberdeen charity has raised nearly £50,000 to support local children.
Befriend a Child held its annual fundraising ball at Ardoe House Hotel last Friday, with hundreds of supporters getting into the disco spirit to dance the night away.
During the night, the crowd heard how befriending was helping transform the lives of disadvantages youngsters throughout the north-east.
There was also an auction, raffle and games – taking the total raised to £49,655.
Chief executive Sarah Misra said: “We are delighted to have raised such a fantastic sum at The Disco Ball and we couldn’t have done it without our fantastic sponsors, guests and supporters who all contributed to making the event a spectacular evening.”
Head of operations Jean Gordon, added: “Befriend a Child currently has a waiting list of 45 children and thanks to the generosity of those attending The Disco Ball we will be able to ensure many of these children receive the support they need.
“Volunteers are truly at the heart of what we do, we couldn’t continue making a difference to the lives of local children without them and our need for more individuals is only increasing. It’s heartwarming to see our guests and supporters interested in joining our team of volunteer befrienders following The Disco Ball.”
The charity matches children with trained volunteers who act as positive role models and take them on fortnightly outings to improve their overall quality of life.
