Plans for a Starbucks in Bridge of Don have been thrown out.
Kemble Estates, which owns land on Intown Road, requested permission for a drive-through facility.
It was to be built on land next to a new KFC where the Glenvarigill car dealership was until it was demolished in 2013.
Planning consultants Halliday Fraser Munro, on behalf of Kemble Estates Ltd, had urged planners to back the coffee shop as it would serve residents and workers in a fast-growing area – with more than 7,000 new homes in the pipeline.
But concerns had been raised about road safety, both from the local authority and the public.
Throughout last year, Bridge of Don Community Council fought against the plans and asked how the drive-through could be “deemed safe”.
In their letter of objection, they highlighted the potential for traffic to build up at the junctions of Ellon Road, Broadfold Road and Intown Road.
Member George Saunders said that the group already had concerns about the increase in traffic once KFC opens, adding: “Safety is paramount and any back up of traffic could lead to accidents both to vehicles and pedestrians.”
Now planning chiefs have rejected the plans, ruling that it would, “by its very nature, generate additional traffic”.
