A Ballater woman will take to the skies to raise money for the hospital that cared for her late friend in her dying days.
Cheryl Barr, owner of Shorty’s Ice Cream Parlour, met Sue Cunningham through various committees in the town that promoted local events.
Despite the age difference of more than 30 years, the pair became firm friends.
In October, Mrs Cunningham was diagnosed with renal cancer and she died on February 20, aged 64.
Her funeral raised money for a Bear Named Buttony and Friends of Anchor.
Now Miss Barr is hoping to give back to the “amazing” staff at Aboyne Hospital that helped her friend, by dedicating money raised from an upcoming charity skydive in May.
She said: “When she had enough strength, Sue adored her time outside being in the fresh air, near the water and listening to the tranquil sounds of the countryside.
“She loved to watch the wee birdies sitting on a very crooked birdhouse preening themselves.
“Sue donated her bird feed to the hospital thinking this may encourage more birds to visit the patio area and bring joy to current patients that see them.
“It is my hope that any funds raised will be go toward making the hospital as lovely a space for other patients who would enjoy their surroundings as much as Sue was able to enjoy hers.”
Miss Barr, who has previously hosted a number of charity events, hopes to raise £1,000 with her effort.
