Two Aberdeen University students plan to walk more than 500 miles across Germany to raise funds for a north-east animal charity.
In order to complete the challenge in 30 days, Marie Bernards and Mike Tucker will need to walk at least 20 miles each day.
For the challenge, the couple will be packing a tent as well as clothes and food, but as wild camping is strictly forbidden in Germany, the couple will have to rely on the kindness of strangers to spend the night in their gardens.
The students will walk 513 miles from the most western village in Germany, Selskant, to the most eastern village, Neißeaue, to raise funds for Willows Animal Sanctuary.
Miss Bernards and her boyfriend hope to raise over £1,000 through their challenge.
She said: “We both enjoy hiking but I’ve never done anything like this for charity before. I think it’s a good cause to raise money for and I really love animals.”
“We’re a little nervous about finding places to sleep but I read about someone who walked from the north to the south of Germany and they found the kindness of strangers can surprise you.”
The couple plan to start their challenge on August 1 and hope to complete it by August 31, in time for the start of the new semester at university.
