An Aberdeen MSP has called for an investigation into a “horrific” incident where a woman was hurt by a collapsing shopfront.
A large overhanging sign at Clear Pharmacy on Holburn Street fell to the ground on Sunday afternoon, briefly trapping a pedestrian underneath.
The woman had to be taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with a suspected serious injury to her leg.
Aberdeen Central MSP Kevin Stewart has said an investigation must now take place to determine the cause of the collapse.
In a letter to the city council, which has responsibility for looking into these types of incidents, Mr Stewart said he had been left “worried and shocked” at what had taken place on “what is usually one of the busiest pavements in the city.”
He added: “My thoughts are with the woman involved in this horrific incident and I hope that she is able to make a speedy recovery.
“It’s now imperative that the circumstances are investigated and a full investigation into why this happened is conducted.
“I worry how much worse this could have been if the street was as busy as your more-typical weekends.
“During this difficult time, health and safety is of vital importance as we must do all we can to relieve pressure on our NHS.
“Let’s hope these incidents remain few and far between, but right now due investigations must take place.”
