A Buddhist nun who has taught meditation for 17 years has launched an online class to keep people relax during lockdown.
Kadampa Meditation Centre had to temporarily stop their sessions due to Covid-19 but now, thanks to Gen Tubchen, virtual classes have started up.
There has now been “quite an uptake” of people joining them since they moved the content online.
Nun Tubchen said: “Isolation is different for everyone, some are doing it with their families and some are doing it alone.
“What can you do with your mind during this time? A lot of people are experiencing anxiety during this time and we think meditation can help people build a stronger and better mental health.”
A variety of classes can be accessed on their website including a half an hour meditation and a one hour session with more being added as their capacity increases.
The charity takes a small fee for the sessions and the shorter meditations cost £3 or £10 per week.
Nun Tubchen added: “Doing the classes for online is really different but it feels much more intimate. I once ran a class in front of 2,000 people at a festival so this is a change.
“This is the charity’s way of functioning and supporting our members but also reaching people across the north, bringing it into their home and creating a little bit of peace.”
