The Clachnaben car park has been blocked off after reports of people flouting lockdown rules.
Clachnaben at Glen Dye is a favourite among walkers, and its car park near the Bridge of Dye, just off the B974 Banchory to Fettercairn road, also known as Cairn O’Mount, is frequently packed with visitors during warm weather.
Visitors have been told to stay away during the coronavirus lockdown, and now boulders, traffic cones and tape have been erected to prevent vehicular access.
The move came after police the site following reports of people flouting the rules. It is believed one such group were having a barbecue.
Chief Inspector Kevin Walker, local area commander, said: “Officers attended the car park at Glen Dye over the weekend following contact with the landowners in order to engage with the people in the area and encourage them to follow the current guidelines.
“No penalty notices were issued. Police Scotland did not request for the car park to be closed.
“It is vitally important that people continue to follow social distancing instructions in order to protect the NHS, curtail the spread of coronavirus and save lives.”
