A fire-hit building which housed four beach-front properties is in the process of being demolished.
The property – which contained Jimmy Chung’s restaurant, Pier Bistro, The Captain’s Table and ADS Janitorial – was devastated by a fire which broke out on February 20.
Aberdeen City Council issued a demolition warrant at the end of April.
The work, which began last week with Turriff-based firm LKN Plant Hire at the helm, could take about four to five weeks to complete.
The demolition team are understood to be carrying out an asbestos report on the building, which could lead to delays.
However, the owner of a neighbouring business yesterday reassured locals worried about the possibility of the harmful substance being on the site.
Martin Vicca, manager of the Inversnecky Cafe, said: “The roof was totally redone eight years ago, so I would be really surprised if there was asbestos.”
He added: “It’s good to see them commencing the demolition because it’s become a bit of an eyesore.
“The burnt smell is quite strong. I notice people don’t like to sit close to it, but it’s one of those things you just have to live with.”
The blaze which destroyed the building was fought by over 50 firefighters and raged for about nine hours before it was brought under control.
