An Ellon social enterprise, which has turned attention to helping the community get around during the coronavirus crisis, says a grant from Aberdeenshire Council has made “such a difference” to its future.
North-east Transport Training normally helps people gain driving qualifications but has instead begun shuttling people around the region.
In the past weeks, they have started daily trips to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, taken NHS staff to work, and undertaken shopping runs and prescription pick ups for people in northern Aberdeenshire.
NETT’s profits normally go towards community transport, but its head Rachel Milne has delved into cash reserves to help the council and NHS during the pandemic.
Mrs Milne told The P&J: “Compared to what others are doing this is small, but if it helps someone then it’s important to us.
“What a difference this grant has made. It is enough for seven weeks of fuel and means we won’t be stuck unable to pay for something else in the future.”
