A support worker is ‘cycling the length of Scotland’ to raise funds for a north-east bereavement charity.
Emma Leaper will cycle 410 miles – the distance from the most northern point of Scotland, Dunnet Head, to the most southern point, Mull of Galloway – for Sunrise Partnership, all without leaving home.
The sessional worker was hoping to complete the Kiltwalk for the charity this year, but when it was postponed due to Covid-19 she decided to set herself a new challenge to raise vital funds.
Sunrise Partnership supports young people under the age of 18 who live in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire who have been affected by bereavement and loss.
Miss Leaper, 27, said: “They had to cancel a fundraising event due to the current circumstances and we think there will be an increase in referrals, meaning a higher demand for funding
“I’m glad to be doing something for a charity that has a positive impact on so many children that have experienced loss and bereavement.
“I expect it to be a challenge but that makes it even more worthwhile.”
The team is currently supporting children online through zoom and phone calls but are expecting an increase in the number of people needing support amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
When things return to normal, children can receive support through one-to-one sessions in school or at their home.
