The supply and distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) remains “extremely challenging” in Aberdeenshire, according to a new report.

On Thursday’s full meeting of Aberdeenshire Council, elected members will be provided with an extensive update on how the authority has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

A report prepared for councillors ahead of the meeting outlines how the virus, and the lockdown, have been affecting all manner of council services so far, including infrastructure, education, and housing.

The document, prepared by the council’s head of legal and governance Karen Wiles, has also provided elected members with the latest on the current situation of securing PPE for where it is required.

Ms Wiles said in the report: “Feedback from the Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership is that supply and distribution of PPE remains extremely challenging, but is more settled than it has been.”

She added: “National demand for PPE has reached unprecedented levels.

“As such, procurement have worked to expand Aberdeenshire Council’s supplier base to ensure that all services have access to reliable supply chains.

“The combination of services carrying out effective stock control, managing demand and supplier and engagement is ensuring that the risk of council employees not having access to appropriate PPE is being kept to a minimum.”
