Cancer support charity Friends of Anchor has created an online community for north-east patients as they go through treatment.
The organisation is preparing to offer virtual coffee mornings, one-to-one tutorials with massage specialists and entertainment including music and cooking demonstrations.
It will also run weekly mindfulness sessions from accredited tutor Louise Martin, which have been tailored specifically to meet the needs of participants.
Hosted on Facebook, the group will let cancer and haematology patients from Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland connect with each other in a space designed to be “safe and supportive” for all involved.
Paula Beattie, Friends of Anchor’s wellbeing co-ordinator, said: “Although we can’t be round the wards physically right now, we still want to offer support and that’s why we’re seeking to create this online community for patients, as a safe, supportive and private place for them to connect with fellow patients.
“As well as being a place for friendships to grow, we’ll be sharing content that we hope will be of real benefit to patients – things like mindfulness and meditation, virtual cuppas and special guest appearances.”
The group can be found by searching for Friends of Anchor Patient Community on Facebook. Its daily schedule of activities will begin from Monday.
