A north-east auctioneer hopes a fascinating pair of ledgers will offer a glimpse into Aberdeen’s history.
Allan Milne runs Huntly Auctions in Keith and, very recently, a vendor entered for sale with two 1771 ledgers.
The books document the start up of The Associated Congregation of Aberdeen Charitable Fund, which gave “monies to the poor.”
These are the only copies in existence and Mr Milne hopes a potential buyer will be able to research and unearth more about the fund.
Mr Milne said: “I must say that it was a rare surprise to come across such a interesting and special pair of ledgers.
“Hopefully someone local will be interested, so they stay in Aberdeen.”
It is one of many interesting items Huntly Auctions has sold over the last 10 years.
About two years ago they sold Drummuir’s Gold Lifesaving Medal, described as “a great rarity.” It belonged to Admiral Archibald Duff, a member of Lord Nelson’s Fleet.
In their last sale, they sold an Aberdeen Militia Brown Bess Rifle for £5,000, to a buyer in the Lake District.
He added: “As an auctioneer it always gives a thrill to be able to tell a vendor that their item is not the £5 that they thought it was worth but rather £400 as was the case with a rather scruffy Arabic dagger that was entered into our last sale.”
