Francis McPhee, known as Thomson, made no plea when he appeared in private in front of Sheriff Edward Savage at the city’s sheriff court yesterday. The 24-year-old is accused of being involved in an incident at Shiprow, Aberdeen, on Sunday, May 18. It is alleged Mr Ashton was assaulted near the city’s Maritime Museum between 9pm and 9.30pm that night. He died in hospital three days later. Thomson, whose address was given only as Aberdeen, was remanded in custody while the case was continued for further examination. He is expected to appear in court again within eight days.
