The north-east’s police dog unit has recently welcomed two very special new recruits.
Constable Paul Wigley and police dog Zeus successfully have completed their initial 12-week training course.
PD Zeus is now one of only two Belgian Malinois dogs working in the north-east in conjunction with a number of German Shepherds and other specialist search dogs.
The pup was sourced by the dog training centre in Glasgow, where it was quickly identified he possessed all the attributes required for general purpose police dog work.
PC Wigley also brings a large amount of experience to the unit, having completed eight years of service within local policing, CID and other specialist support departments.
A police spokesman said: “Both dog and handler are a welcome addition to the north-east dog unit.
“They will be used throughout the entire division and beyond to assist in keeping people safe.”
