Scottish Water plan to use “innovative” methods to expand an Aberdeenshire water plant.
The Turriff Water Treatment Works (WTW) supplies north Aberdeenshire with clean drinking water, mostly from the River Deveron and the Delgaty Borehole.
Plans to replace the WTW have been put on hold so, in the meantime, Scottish Water has applied to the council for permission to create a new motor control centre (MCC).
The new building, replacing an “outdated” predecessor, will be a central location as to which electric motors within the site are operated.
Planning documents state: “The MCC will be located between buildings and will be coloured blue/grey to match existing buildings on the site.
“As it is replacing an unattractive old garage and portacabin the visual change will be limited and the overall visual impact may be slightly positive.”
The council has been told it has been designed with “innovative modular technology”, and will be constructed off-site before being delivered to Turriff in transportable sections.
Planning documents add: “There is a reduction in carbon emissions using this construction method as it has a considerably reduced construction programme, less site preparation and fewer vehicle movements for workforce, equipment and supplies.”
