Three north-east groups have been awarded funding for projects along the coast.
The Buchan area committee yesterday agreed to changes for community council grants and approved expenditure as part of the Coastal Community Fund.
Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust, Boddam Harbour Trust and
Buchanhaven Harbour SCIO will all benefit from the funding.
Angie Fraser, principal of the Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust, said they would be putting the money towards a new boat that would help get young people out in the water after lockdown.
She said: “Sailing is exciting and it will engage young people and give them a safe focus and allow them to learn skills they wouldn’t learn at school.
“The funding is fantastic news and it means all this stuff can happen for the new generation of young people of Buchan.”
The boat will be used for a variety of projects including working with schools, supporting weekly youth activities and summer projects working with children from New Pitsligo and Buchanhaven as well as the PeterDeen and FraserDeen projects.
Boddam Harbour Trust will be using their funding for new picnic tables and benches to tidy up the harbour area and make it a pleasant place for tourists and locals.
Buchanhaven Harbour will spend their share on roof repairs for the harbour shed, a power washer, a wet hoover and by installing a davit on the pier.
