A north-east mother has raised hundreds of pounds for charity with a sponsored silence challenge.
Lynn Easdale from Fraserburgh raised almost £800 for the Cure and Action for Tay-Sachs (CATS) foundation.
Mrs Easdale’s four-year-old son Jayden was diagnosed with Tay Sachs when he was only nine months old.
It is a rare genetic condition which manifests itself when a child is three-to-six months old and stops their nerves working properly.
The CATS foundation campaigns for awareness and a cure for Tay Sachs.
Mrs Easdale was initially going to undertake a 48-hour sponsored silence, but such was the initial success of her page, she decided to extend her challenge even further.
She started on Sunday at 8am and will finally be able to speak again today.
Replying to questions by email, Mrs Easdale said: “We were expecting to raise around £200 and didn’t think it would go to this.
“I must say a big thank you to everyone who has donated so far. It has totally overwhelmed us.
“Its been hard at times as not being able to talk to Jayden or his brother Connor, but I keep focusing on why I am doing it and it gets me through.
“I thought this would be a good way to help raise awareness of what this charity does to support families.
CATS has aided us by connecting us with other families, helping us with any equipment that we need and also being there to answer any questions we have.
“There also there as a support network on our dark days.”
The family hope to stage a second fundraiser after Covid-19 passes.
